This workshop is suitable for professionals with an interest in how to use story, myth and metaphor in a therapeutic context. This is a theoretical and practical one-day workshop that will provide you with additional tools to help your clients, patients and students with a whole range of issues, from anxiety, low-self-esteem, lack of confidence, depression, relationship problems, health issues, addictions, and more.

In this workshop you will learn how the deeper meanings and metaphors within stories create patterns and expectations in the brain. The metaphors in stories – especially those we heard in our formative years – creep in under the radar of our conscious awareness, laying down blueprints in the brain that we follow unconsciously, influencing the way our lives turn out.

In this workshop we will also explore other creative ways to use story (that is not so dependent on language) by engaging the imaginative mind. You will learn how to help your clients create a healthier blueprint/pattern by changing or reframing their personal narratives. When the story is changed on a deep, instinctive level it becomes far easier to make changes in the real world.

We will also explore the hypnotic nature of a story told well and how hypnosis/the REM state is a fundamental part of the work you do (whether you are a counsellor, psychotherapist, social worker or teacher). The workshop is also about personal development too, as we believe that in order to help others it is vital that we have a deeper understanding of ourselves.
