This workshop will give the participants the tools to understand what is unbearable in the clinical setting and how to work with the ‘unbearable’. This workshop will provide a safe environment in which to explore the challenging dilemmas which some clients bring to the therapeutic relationship. We will look at the different ways the ‘unbearable’ appears in the consulting room. This will include physical as well as emotional aspects of the work.
The idea of ‘naming the unbearable’ in the therapeutic relationship will guide us when revisiting the theoretical concepts of ‘the frame’, containment, resistance and boundaries.
- What is unbearable for each of us in our private life and our consulting room
- What is the therapist’s and what is the client’s will be addressed
- How can you learn to safely manage the unbearable in your clinical practice.
The morning session will cover some key theoretical points which will come alive during the afternoon session.
Maya includes a lot of her own examples to guide the participants in their way of working and she uses a range of therapeutic modalities in a creative and imaginative way.
