There has been extensive research into mindfulness and its influence on the brain and emotional regulation. Mindfulness-based approaches such as Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) have become widely available within the NHS and other settings and have proven to be effective in areas such as depression, anxiety, BPD and chronic pain. For instance MBCT has been recognised by NICE as an effective treatment for depression.
In this workshop we will explore the opportunities and challenges for therapists who wish to learn more about mindfulness and how to integrate it in their clinical 1-1 work. We will look at how to build and deepen our own mindfulness practice and how we might be able to integrate this in our work and our existing approaches.
The workshop will have a strong experiential focus and offers an opportunity for beginners and experienced mindfulness practitioners alike to practice some key mindfulness skills and techniques that are particularly relevant for working mindfully within the therapeutic relationship. We will also enquire into how therapists and clients can cultivate empathic presence, acceptance and equilibrium when working with complex dynamics, memories or trauma.
