Dr Bernice Sorensen is a psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer who completed her doctoral research in 2004 on the psychological and social aspects of growing up an only child both in child and adulthood.
As part of her research Bernice set up a website to share her work and invite adult onlies to share their stories, experience and meaning which led to a multicultural theme to her work.
Her book Only-child Experience and Adulthood was published by Palgrave in 2008 and since then she has been interviewed on radio programmes both in the UK and abroad.
She has had a forty-year career working in Education, NHS, EAP programmes and co-wrote Counselling for Young People published by OUP in 1995.
Presently she runs supervision courses as part of Cascade Training and was formerly supervision editor for the BACP publication Therapy Today. Bernice has a private practice in Dorset which keeps her busy when she is not training, travelling or writing her blog for www.onlychild.org.uk
