I like the description you offer regarding projective identification. It is uncomplicated and reference to the vernacular `wind up` is accurate. The idea of taking in these feelings and understanding them as a communication fro a person undertaking psychotherapy is also accurate. While psychoanalysis is without peers as a means of understanding perplexing or the seemingly irrational. There is a cost for the therapist. containment as described by Wilfred Bion is helpful and necessary to human growth and development. However this human capacity to moderate potentially overwhelming feelings in others cannot be tolerated repeatedly without emotional cost.
